Macintosh users need to read the following instructions in order to be able to browse/download/upload files from our BMES-ERC FTP server.

CONNECTING TO THE BMES-ERC SERVER
Suppose you would like access to the files stored on the BMES-ERC server. You can access these files, by establishing a connection from your computer to the BMES-ERC server.

 Download FETCH Software

Open the Fetch software. In the FILE menu, go to NEW CONNECTION. The following window will open:

Be sure to input the supplied username and password into the appropriate boxes. Leave the directory space 'blank'.

The following window that opens is our online storage system. There are a number of files and folders in this directory. It looks something like the following:

FILE MANAGEMENT
Using Fetch, you may upload/download new files and folders. Here's how:

For general file maintenance, try the following: to create a new directory, look in the DIRECTORIES Menu for CREATE NEW DIRECTORY;

UPLOADING A FILE
To upload a file (e.g., Word, Images, Presentations):
Click the PUT FILE button.

Choose the file you wish to publish. The following window will open:

Please note: If the file is an html (.htm, .html) file, then leave the format as TEXT. BUT, if the file is an image (.gif, .jpg, etc.), then you need to choose RAW DATA. Press down on the TEXT bar, and a pull-down menu will open. Choose RAW DATA.

DOWNLOADING A FILE
To retrieve a file from our ftp server, click the GET button. A menu box will open prompting you to choose a file from the server to be downloaded to your computer.
 

The best way to familiarize yourself with the uploading and downloading of files is to try it (so do it!).

Be VERY CAREFUL when uploading (publishing) multiple files. It is VERY easy to overwrite files, since Fetch will NOT warn you if another file of the same name already exists. On the contrary, when saving a file on a Macintosh, an error message will appear if you are over-writing another file with the same name. This will NOT happen with Fetch.
